For a variety of reasons, many shooting cosplayers choose to go on vacation to take cosplay photos, especially when the weather is sunny and the temperature is right, summer vacation often becomes the best choice for most cosplayers. In order for everyone’s efforts not to be wasted, I think it’s important to be clear on how to take cosplay photos in the harsh conditions of summer, and here are the notes I’ve collected and compiled online on related issues.
1. During the summer, 4 pm to 6 pm is the best time for location photography
Many cosplayers are not aware of this, they think that the shooting should be done during the day, and that it is just right to go home and rest after shooting, while 4 o’clock in the afternoon is a bit too late. Most experienced photographers are aware of this golden shooting time, but many still set the shooting time according to the cosplayer’s wishes. If it’s not summer, it’s still possible to shoot during the day, but it’s a great test for photographers to shoot from 12 to 3 pm in the summer when they can bake eggs on the ground.
People may feel that cosplayers wear several layers of clothes and wigs is the hottest and hardest people, and not all. I know many photographers light camera has several kilograms, I can not keep one hand flat lift. These photographers are very dedicated people, will not perfunctory cosplayers haphazardly finished shooting, sometimes want to take good pictures of the desire than cosplayers are strong, shooting exhausted are not surprising.
In addition to exhaustion, the strong outdoor light in summer will also lead to overexposure of photos, affecting the texture of the photos. In addition to this, under the dazzling summer sun, many cosplayers are unable to open their eyes and facial expressions become difficult to control; it also leads to shadows on the cosplayer’s face, even with reflectors to fill in the light, the strong light also makes the photos look very unnatural.
In summer, if the sun goes down around 7:30, then it is usually best to set the shooting time at about 3:00.
2. Don’t be late and underestimate the time it takes to put on your makeup and get dressed
We all appreciate the fact that hot weather makes people less patient, so there is nothing more important than being on time regarding summer appointments. If the photographer waits for an hour, I don’t think he’ll be in the mood for a good photo shoot.
In addition to being late, you should also be careful to have your wig sorted and trimmed before you put on your makeup, so you don’t wait until it’s time to start trimming it. Usually everyone has to sit for a long time at the barber store, and by the same token, trimming wigs is also a very time-consuming task. If you are usually too busy to find time to go to a friend or go to the barber store to cut, then on the day of the shoot must set aside half an hour for yourself to trim your wig. It is best to finish trimming before makeup, if it is after makeup, trim down the wig will fall on the face eyes, a sweep will affect the makeup.
Remember: clean up the wig!!! Do not get the floor dirty.
3. Bring enough logisticians
Mentioned above, strong sunlight will lead to cosplayers face shadows heavy, shooting need reflectors and other tools to fill the light. Generally, photographers do not bring extra assistants, so cosplayers need to take the initiative to bring a logistical special responsibility.
The logistics responsible for watching the bag to keep the belongings is not to mention that it is necessary. Remind easy to sweat off the makeup of friends to have logistics to help wipe sweat, organize bangs clothes and so on, their own hands will be a waste of time affect the shooting.
4. Makeup to clean mainly
Usually makeup artists will be very averse to applying too much stuff on the face, resulting in too much makeup on the face. As a makeup artist, my feeling is that there are very few people who have well maintained skin. So most people will eat primer and apply heavy foundation on sweaty and oily days nonetheless it is not very effective in prolonging the time of primer on the face, it will be more oily and shiny because it hinders the skin from dissipating heat …… and then the thick primer that melts halfway will be miserable. The best way is to use setting loose powder.
For cosplayers with darker skin tones, don’t use a foundation that differs from your own by more than two shades, which will make the skin turn green and unhealthy. Even people with very white skin will not have the ideal white in their photos, and all need to be adjusted later.
When painting eye makeup it is best to avoid using all powder cosmetics for color, which can easily become bad in summer. It is recommended to use eyeliner and eyeliner gel, which are not smudged for a long time.
5. After shooting, it’s best to treat everyone to ice cream!
A lot of cosplayers are in school as students, and they often choose the longer summer holidays to take cosplay photos. Some of the notes above will hopefully help you, and I wish you a fun shooting experience.
